we are just glorified monkeys
Today I woke up with a realization deep in my bones: we are all just glorified monkeys doing things.
I'm not saying this from some intellectual high horse. This is something I feel viscerally. We're monkeys who got better at being efficient, at collaborating, at making things for each other.
Look around. The man riding his bike to work, the woman selling biscuits at the store, the worker laying bricks, your friend typing on his laptop. Strip away the surface and it all comes back to the same primal drives: protect, provide, collaborate, procreate, seek status or something else.
Even the man walking his beloved dog on a leash is just a primate who figured out how to tame other animals.
This truth feels liberating. Everything we consume, everything we call "life," is created by other primates just like us. Which means we can change it. We can make things. We can produce for each other's consumption.
